Generosity

We can be generous with our time, talents,  energy,  hospitality, and money.

We help you make an impact that’s meaningful to you, and aligns with your values.

Open-handed giving is a way of giving that has no regret, and no feeling of loss associated with it.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9: 7-8 NIV

At Heartwood We Believe:

It All COMEs FROM GOD

Money does not have any eternal value; it’s an earthly possession and God is generous to us.

“Freely you have received; freely give” Matthew 10:8

Giving Inspires Giving

Perpetuating the cycle of giving makes your community and world a better place and honors God. One kind act can inspire others to go out and plant seeds, too. Giving to others teaches us responsibility because we often find we don’t need as much as we think we do. Research suggests that the giver is often much happier spending money on others than themselves. Perhaps it’s the smiles of gratitude, expressions of hope, or you see evidence of your sacrifice improving the lives of those whom you have helped by being generous.

“Think of giving not as a duty, but as a privilege.” John D. Rockefeller Jr.

Are You A Thrower of Starfish?

Adapted from The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up. As he came closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. As the boy walked, he paused every so often, occasionally reaching down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. As he approached the boy, the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” said the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves”. The youth continued, “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? There must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

At this, he bent down once again, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it as far as he could into the sea. As it met the water, he turned, smiled and said, “It sure made a difference to that one!”

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
