Demel Gonzalez, CFP ®: President and Founder

As President, Mr. Gonzalez leads his team in a vision to build and cultivate deeper client relationships while providing exceptional service and performance to the clientele of Heartwood Financial Services. Utilizing his natural skill to assist and educate in a manner of respect and friendship, Mr. Gonzalez has set a new benchmark for the way that financial advisors interact with their clients. From its inception, and forward into the future of Heartwood, Mr. Gonzalez plays a vital role in the growth and development of his company.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Business Administration, his cumulative 14 years spent at Fidelity Investments started with an internship during his final year of studies. Mr. Gonzalez was then retained by Fidelity upon graduation and proceeded to work his way through the ranks, quickly becoming a Vice President & Senior Account Executive, where he was directly responsible for overseeing assets valued at one billion dollars. Mr. Gonzalez advised his clients on investments, retirement planning, risk-management as well as trust and estate planning. His exemplary work ethic and dedication to his clients allowed him to have received multiple awards of excellence including three President’s Circle awards.

Arriving in the United States from Cuba at the age of four, Mr. Gonzalez attributes much of his success to his father. The hard work and strong values exemplified by his father after leaving the oppression in his homeland are the same drive and values Mr. Gonzalez uses today to work for his clients.

Mr. Gonzalez is most proud of the family that surrounds him. Alongside his wife of thirteen years, Christa, and children Andrew and Sam, he is a faithful member of Lakeside Fellowship United Methodist Church in Sanford and volunteers his time there as the Finance Chair. He also coordinates and facilitates the teaching of Financial Peace University; a Dave Ramsey course teaching Biblically based financial principles. As a father with a son on the Autism spectrum, Mr. Gonzalez has a big heart for children with special needs, volunteering with the Special Olympics whenever he can. He also enjoys mountain biking, playing tennis, crossfit and watching Miami Dolphins football.

Mr. Gonzalez is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete the CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Christa Gonzalez: Communications Director

As Director of Communications, Mrs. Gonzalez is responsible for the way in which Heartwood Financial Services, LLC is represented, in relation to clients, the media, and any other institutions that work together with or come in contact with the corporation. With a strong skill set in both written and interpersonal communication, she is the editor of the quarterly newsletter, coordinates all company correspondence, as well as serves as office manager and event coordinator, thus bringing a valuable asset to Heartwood Financial Services.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Interpersonal Communications, her desire to hone her skills was afforded to her as she assisted the Director of Communications & Marketing of Adventist Health System in Winter Park, FL upon graduation. There she was responsible for many aspects involved in organizing several annual conferences, prepared and maintained a website geared to acquiring collegiate interest in the field of healthcare and healthcare administration, as well as kept an open line of communication with the thirty plus Colleges and Universities under the umbrella of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Gonzalez made the conscious decision to leave the workforce when she and her husband started their family. Since then, she has no greater fulfillment than that of being a fulltime mom to her two young boys, Andrew and Samuel. Being a parent of a child who has autism has also given Mrs. Gonzalez a renewed sense of patience, persistence and perspective. Actively involved in her children’s education, she volunteers her time weekly at the local Elementary School. Aside from the duties entailed in being a mother and wife, she is an active member of Lakeside Fellowship United Methodist Church, where she has served as co-chair of Women’s Ministries and continues to sing with the Praise Team every week.

Always a source of support and encouragement, Mrs. Gonzalez is thrilled to re-enter the workforce as she helps her husband and Founder of Heartwood Financial Services, LLC, Demel Gonzalez pursue his lifelong dream.
